The Obama administration’s new anti-smog legislation sounds appealing, but what about its affect on industry jobs? According to one researcher the legislation could result in the loss of 7.3 million jobs. While the researcher admitted the number may be inaccurate, due to the number of unknown variables, in this tough economy a job loss half that size could be disastrous.
The EPA estimates that the anti-smog standards could prevent up to 12,000 premature deaths and 58,000 cases of aggravated asthma, and save as much as $100 billion in health costs. However, with the unemployment rate sluggishly declining, the U.S. government needs more jobs, not fewer.
