-
POPs - Regulations implementing the Stockholm Convention that restrict or eliminate persistent organic pollutants which are chemicals that persist in the environment, bioaccumulate and pose risks to human health and ecosystems.
-
RoHS - A California law requiring businesses to provide warnings if products or exposures may expose people to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
-
Prop 65 - A California law requiring businesses to provide warnings if products or exposures may expose people to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
-
TSCA - A U.S. law that regulates the manufacture, import, processing, and use of chemical substances and can impose reporting requirements, testing or restrictions on certain chemicals.
-
REACH - A European Union regulation requiring companies to register chemical substances and manage risks associated with their use, including disclosure and possible restriction of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) in products.
-
PFAS - Regulations that restrict, phase out or require reporting of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in products due to their persistence in the environment and potential health risks. Many jurisdictions now require disclosure of PFAS in products.
Disclosure requests often come through supplier declarations and product disclosures. Common regulatory frameworks governing product materials include PFAS restrictions, REACH, TSCA, California Prop 65, RoHS, POPs regulations, and Conflict Minerals reporting requirements.
Product material compliance covers rules and customer requirements that determine which substances and materials can be used in products. These requirements often come from a mix of national and international regulations and industry standards.
Product Compliance
Life cycle analysis helps organizations optimize their products and processes to increase performance and comply with appropriate regulations while decreasing energy, waste and costs.
EES provides comprehensive sustainability Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for products and processes. EES life cycle analysis evaluates raw materials, energy, logistics, vendors, customers, waste, risk and more.
Product Life Cycle Analysis
Sustainability Services
EES provides comprehensive sustainability services including Scope 1, 2 & 3 greenhouse gas reporting, energy audits, benchmarking and building tune ups.
EES also provides a complete range product sustainability services including Product Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) and Product Compliance analysis and reporting for PFAS, TSCA, Prop 65 REACH and other legislations.
Scopes 1, 2 & 3
Greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting is a large part of environmental sustainability and is used by organizations to understand and disclose where their emissions come from.
Emissions are generally grouped into different categories (often called ‘Scopes’), covering direct operations, purchased energy and upstream and downstream activities. These numbers are used for regulatory reporting and sustainability programs.
-
Scope 1 - Direct greenhouse gas emissions from sources that an organization owns or controls, such as fuel burned on-site (e.g., boilers, furnaces, company vehicles).
-
Scope 2 - Indirect greenhouse gas emissions from the generation of purchased energy used by the organization, such as electricity, steam, heating, or cooling.
-
Scope 3 - Other indirect greenhouse gas emissions that occur across the value chain, including emissions from suppliers, transportation, waste, and the use of sold products.
Energy Efficiency Services
-
Energy Benchmarking - EES provides EnergyStar building energy usage benchmarking that help buildings compare their energy usage with similar buildings and with previous-year energy performance of their own building.
-
Building Tune Ups - Many cities have incentives programs or regulatory requirements to perform regular audit with recommendations of a building's HVAC, chiller, building controls and other energy related systems.
-
Tax Deductions - EES provides documentation services for eligibility for Section 179 tax deductions for qualifying disbursements.
-
Green Energy - Some organizations structure their energy purchases to benefit sustainability goals. EES provides energy brokerage and rebate services.
