Ozone season in Philadelphia runs May 1 through September 30. During this period, emergency generators and fire pumps may not be tested, tuned or maintained on Air Quality Action Days — days when the AQI forecast is Orange or Red (above 100).
New This Year: Where to Check the AQI
Starting this ozone season, Philadelphia Air Management Services (AMS) will only accept AQI data from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) for the Southeast PA Region. Sources previously used, including AirNow and EnviroFlash, are no longer accepted.
Before any testing, check the forecast at:
The forecast is available after 5:00 PM the day before, or on the day of testing.
Record What You Check
When logging generator run times and testing or maintenance activity, include the AQI color code for that day. This is required for compliance with Air Management Regulation XV.
Please update your internal procedures accordingly. Questions? Contact us at info@eesolutions.net or 215-704-1506. We can also provide free templates to help you track and record AQI forecasts in a way that meets the new AMS requirements.
