Earth 911 – Recycling Resource

Updated: Aug 29, 2023

As climate change continues to be a serious problem that requires immediate attention, it is at times difficult to know how you as an individual can make an impact. Reducing consumption and reusing items that would other wise be thrown away are two methods to help reduce your carbon footprint. However, if there are items that can’t be reused, then recycling is the next best option.

Some cities make it easy to recycle, however there are others that aren’t so simple. Many also wonder what products can be recycled and where to recycle products that aren’t allowed in your weekly recycling bin. These types of questions, and a lot more, are addressed on the website

This website has an answer to just about every question regarding recycling. One of the most useful features of the website is search page. This page allows you to enter any item you wish to recycle along with a zip code or address and it will provide you with a location to recycle that item. Additionally, this page also gives you categories to help narrow down your search including automotive, batteries, construction, electronics, garden, glass, hazardous materials, household, metal, paint, paper and plastic. The page also provides a guide on the items that are normally accepted in a curbside recycling service.

Not only does the website act as a great resource to learn how and where to recycle, it also provides a plethora of information on reusing items, do-it-yourself projects, recent recycling news, and reducing consumption. One of these articles, found here, provided nine ways to reuse polystyrene containers, used to hold leftovers at many restaurants. Another article highlights a company that found a way to turn expired groceries into sustainable compost.

Earth911 also includes a number of resources for businesses to aid them in recycling. Included is material recycling reports, advertising opportunities, on-product messaging information, and packaging recommendations. This information can be found here.
