As of today, the EPA Solvent Wipe rule is in effect in the following states, as shown on this map:
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
Virginia
North Carolina
Florida
Illinois
Iowa
Alaska
Rhode Island (reusables only)
Numerous other states are expected to adopt the rule during the next two years, so be sure to keep track of whether your state is planning to adopt the rule. The rule is also currently in effect in American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
This rule streamlines compliance with the federal and state waste regulations for solvent contaminated wipes. Your facility can save time and money with just a few simple adjustments to your handling and storage of contaminated reusable and/or disposable wipes. By labeling your drums “Excluded Solvent-Contaminated Wipes”; accumulating for less than 180 days; ensuring that they contain no free liquids; and maintaining appropriate records, your facility will have made significant progress in complying with this rule.
