Overview

Controlling potential hazards from hospital construction or renovation that can cause infections in immune suppressed patients requires proper environmental planning and monitoring. Project Experience

ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) for Philadelphia Hospital
This current project is a multiphase renovation of several separate hospital areas in a large facility in North East Philadelphia.  EES provides indoor air quality and construction oversight consulting services including the following:

Pre-Construction Surveys

Prior to any renovation or construction activities, for each designated area, a pre-construction indoor air quality (IAQ) assessment is conducted to identify any pre-existing biological or fungal contamination and to establish baseline risk criteria.

The IAQ assessments include the collection of bulk and wipe samples as well as bioaerosol and particulate samples throughout the construction zone.  Representative samples are collected from walls, ceiling, HVAC, and other areas.

Weekly Construction Monitoring

Worksite monitoring, conducted each week, includes inspection of contractor practices and integrity of enclosures and contaminant devices.  Worksite IAQ sampling includes wipe samples for contamination determination, and bioaerosol and particulate sampling to assess the integrity of the construction zone containment.

Pre-Construction Surveys

Upon completion of each construction phase, EES conducts a clearance survey including the collection of wipe, bioaerosol and particulate samples to assess the clean-up by the construction contractor.

EES provides weekly progress reports and provides immediate feedback in cases where there may be significant risk of infection.
