EES Hospital Environmental Compliance Program

Here are the steps we follow when assisting hospitals in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations:

Stage 1: Compliance Audit Our comprehensive environmental audit tool helps hospitals and healthcare facilities identify and isolate potential infringements on federal, state and local requirements, while simultaneously enabling us to recognize areas in which a facility has room for improvement or adjustments in environmental compliance. The federal laws, and associated federal, state and local regulations, we cover include:

1) Clean Air Act (CAA) 2) Clean Water Act (CWA) 3) Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) 4) Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) 5) Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) 6) Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) 7) Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) 8) Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) 9) Oil Pollution Act (OPA) 10) Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA)

Stage 2: Recommendations and Solutions Once the audit process is completed we will formulate recommendations, rated for severity of infraction, based on our evaluations. Serious issues will take precedence over minor ones, and immediate corrective measures will be proposed. Our evaluation of a hospital’s compliance success is based on the implementation of these recommendations.

Stage 3: Implementation Implementation focuses on a plan for corrective measures and operations, covering a myriad of areas from mercury and solid waste reduction and management, pharmaceuticals and much more. We will help you get compliant, and then facilitate your taking it to the next level.

Stage 4: Follow-up, Tracking and Beyond Once compliance and other desired improvements are accomplished we keep you on pace until your next audit with our tracking agenda. Goal setting and attainment is not an end, but part of a cycle which is constantly evolving and changing. We keep you compliant and up-to-date with our ongoing maintenance and tracking via:

• Executing ongoing environmental programs • Lessening environmental impact, surpassing government requirements, limiting liability and cost control solutions • Periodic, targeted compliance audits • Regulatory alerts to ensure that new or pending regulations are incorporated into your programs
